New Group Practice at the Health Centre Four doctors in the Cortes Practice Group share responsibility for patient care and clinical practice, and ensuring that a doctor is always available during health centre hours. In addition, the Group has Locum weeks which it can assign during the year to Locum doctors. We hope that this new model will improve continuity of care between doctors, and will start to offer patients some choice for treatment of non-urgent conditions. Meet our Group Practice Doctors: Dr Ellen Anderson My husband Warren and I live in a newly built 31 unit seniors cohousing community in Sooke known as Harbourside. ( . We are excited to be participating in creating an innovative model for healthy aging in place. I am enjoying doing rural locums after 35 years in family practice—one year in Lake Cowichan, 10 on Pender Island and 24 years in Sooke. I trained in Calgary (med school) and New Zealand (residency), and have since acquired a Master in Community Medicine and Epidemiology from UBC. My special areas of interest are the social determinants of health, youth health, and primary mental health and addictions care. We love to hike, cycle, swim, practice yoga, read widely, and play and listen to early music. Dr Nicholas Bartell Nick has taken on a general practice in Prince George, BC.  We thank you for being part of the team. Dr Jenna Creaser Jenna Creaser is a maritimer from the woods of Nova Scotia, who moved to BC to complete her residency and just couldn't leave. She currently calls Victoria her home-base, but spends time working/playing in the snow of the Northwest Territories when she isn't on Cortes, or posted elsewhere in BC. She likes to spend time being active outdoors, practicing yoga, travelling, and enjoying good food & wine - in moderation, of course...! Clinical interests include holistic wellness, minor procedures, women's health and maternity care. She enjoys being a "rural generalist" and hopes to bring Anatomical Acupuncture to the clinic once her training is complete. Dr Mary-Jo Woolgar Mary-Jo is a graduate of the University of Calgary Medical School. She had a family practice in Calgary for 25 years and has lots of experience with maternal newborn care. She is a certified lactation consultant. She has done locums on Cortes for the past 9 years and enjoys working with the variety of patients that we see on Cortes. She and her husband, Peter, live on Cortes part-time. They like to kayak and take long walks with their dog. Dr. Samantha Stasiuk Samantha is one of the regular locum doctors who fell in love with Cortes (as Dr. Woolgar accurately predicted) during my first visit in 2016.  I am excited to be signing on as one of the regular physicians.  I graduated from the University of Alberta in 2012 and moved to Vancover Island to complete my residency training.  I work closely with the Island Medical Program as I complete my masters degree in medical education and I also have a focus on women’s health and maternity care. I‘m a nature lover and enjoy exploring the oacean coast and hiking with my dog Sitka.  I have recently dabbled in Picle Ball and island yoga classes.
